Using this reading space

Young Pilgrim is a free reading and listening website maintained by its creator. You can read without an account. Use the site lawfully, respect other people’s rights, and avoid disrupting the service, abusing the contact form, bypassing access controls, or using automated requests that impair availability.

The stories are offered for reading, family discussion and educational enjoyment. Availability, historical wording and editorial choices may change as the project is improved.

02

Stories, recordings & permissions

John Bunyan’s original work and A.L.O.E.’s historical text are public-domain materials. Their independent public-domain status is preserved. Third-party fonts and other materials retain their own licenses.

Our new retellings, illustrations, character designs, narration and code are shared under the Young Pilgrim Noncommercial Use License 1.0, to the extent the creator holds the relevant rights. Noncommercial copying, printing, sharing and adaptation are welcome subject to the full license, attribution and identification of changes. Commercial sales or use of these new contributions require prior written permission from the creator, including nonprofit fundraising sales. The full license governs these permissions.

Contact [email protected] for commercial permission. Sending a request does not grant permission.

03

Bookmarks & storage on your device

Bookmarks, reading position, edition, display preferences and audiobook resume position use your browser’s local storage. No sign-in or analytics cookie is needed. Allow this site to store local website data if you want those settings to survive closing the browser.

This information remains on the current browser and device and is not automatically synced to other devices. Private browsing, blocking storage or clearing site data can erase saved progress. Downloaded audio playback outside this website cannot be measured by the site.

04

Privacy: what we collect and why

The website creator operates the reading analytics. We use first-party statistics to understand usage and improve the reading and listening experience. Analytics records may contain a random browser identifier, a session identifier, an HMAC digest of the connecting IP address, event time, page path, story edition and chapter, public control clicks, active reading seconds, actual audiobook playback seconds, broad device category, referring hostname, and approximate country, state/region and city supplied by Cloudflare.

Our analytics database does not store raw IP addresses, GPS coordinates, query strings, contact-form text, names or email addresses. Hashing makes IP records pseudonymous; it does not make browsing records impossible to associate. Shared networks, changing IPs, VPNs, blocked cookies and cleared storage affect estimates. We do not use this analytics for advertising, sell the records, or track readers across unrelated websites.

Reports cover the latest 90 days. Old analytics records are removed during subsequent collection and maintenance; if there is no traffic, physical cleanup may occur later. Exported reports and provider backups may have separate lifecycles. Only the creator’s authenticated administrator account can view the analytics dashboard.

05

Cookies, your choices & privacy signals

The first-party __Host-yp_reader cookie contains a signed random identifier and expiry. It is Secure, HttpOnly and SameSite=Lax, and expires after 180 days without renewal. It lets this site recognise a returning browser and associate chapter activity across visits. The yp-session session-storage identifier distinguishes browser sessions. Local storage also remembers whether you disabled analytics.

You can disable analytics below; this stops future reading-analytics submissions on this browser. Existing records are not automatically erased by the switch. You can also clear site data in your browser to remove identifiers and saved reading settings. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals stop reading analytics. Cookie blocking may prevent recognition across visits. Disabling analytics leaves bookmarks and audio playback available.

Cloudflare may use its own security and administrator authentication cookies. Essential delivery, abuse prevention and contact verification operate separately from optional reading statistics.

Reading statistics & privacy

We measure visits, clicks, approximate country/state/city, chapters read, and actual audiobook listening time. A first-party cookie recognises returning browsers for 180 days. IP addresses are hashed; raw IPs are not stored. Records are kept for up to 90 days. Shared networks and VPNs affect visitor and location estimates.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control are also respected.
06

Contact messages & service providers

If you choose to contact us, the form collects the fields you submit, such as name, email, feedback category, edition/chapter, excerpt, suggestion and message. These are emailed to the creator, and a confirmation/copy is sent to your email address. Messages are used to respond to your inquiry and manage permissions or corrections; they do not subscribe you to marketing emails. Correspondence may be kept in the recipient mailboxes as needed to handle the inquiry. Do not send sensitive personal information.

Cloudflare provides hosting, storage, delivery, IP-based location, Zero Trust administrator authentication, Turnstile verification and email services. It processes connection data, including IP addresses, for those services under its privacy policy. Our contact protection stores anonymous rate counters and submission status separately from message contents. Data may be processed in countries other than your own.

For privacy questions or a request to access or delete records we can reasonably identify, email [email protected]. Tell us which browser/site and approximate dates are involved. We may need information to verify and locate the request; we do not ask you to email a password or authentication token. Some rights or retention exceptions depend on applicable law.

07

Families & younger readers

Families and educators are welcome to read together. Young readers do not need to create an account or submit contact details. A parent or guardian should handle contact-form messages and privacy requests for a child. Reading statistics are used only to understand and operate this site, not to build advertising profiles or target children.

08

Availability, updates & contact

We aim to provide an accessible and reliable reading experience, but do not promise uninterrupted access, error-free historical transcriptions or permanent storage of browser bookmarks. To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided as available. Nothing here excludes rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded.

External websites have their own terms and privacy practices. We may revise these terms and this privacy notice as the service changes; the updated date identifies the current version. Material changes to data practices will be described here. Questions: [email protected].
